Half - Comic and Statement by Maya Parker

“Growing up mixed-race was a strange experience for me. I never really had any thoughts about my ethnicity and race beyond drawing myself with orange skin in grade two (the brown pencil was too dark, and the one called "flesh" wasn't quite right) until high school, when the "Where are you from?" questions started, and I was forced to realize that other people not only perceived me in a physical form but also were confused about it. To me, it has always been simple colour logic: my mother is brown, my father is white, and my sister and I are both light brown. I don't think it's that confusing. I'm just a person. “
