Brutal Style and Energy in Diverse Works by Anthony Sims

Anthony Sims is a Mexican-American artist who was born and raised in Southaven, Mississippi, but began his art career in Memphis, Tennessee. Sims' artwork has been described as "raw and primitive" by the Pinch Journal in 2018 and "created with high-energy" by the Love and Chaos Magazine in 2020. His work is teeming with a brutal style and energy that lashes out of his diverse choice of canvas.

Anthony Sims had his first gallery exhibition at Jack Robinson’s Gallery in March of 2019 and displayed his work again within a few months for the Memphis Current Magazine. After Anthony's exhibition at the Memphis Current Magazine release party, Sims moved to Dallas, TX. Anthony joined Steve Kaufman's New York City art group called the "American Pop Art" collective in October of 2019. Sims has also worked with well-known rappers Issa Gold and Yung Simmie toward the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 on cover artworks.

In March of 2020, Anthony had his artwork placed in the permanent collection at the Meridian Museum of Art, a museum dedicated to preserving and representing notable artist from Mississippi and Alabama that is located in Meridian, MS.

Sims' art follows many characteristics of the late 1970's movement “neo-expressionism” but adds in other art styles such as; Dadaism and cubism. The color pallet typically associated with his work involves the heavy use of red, yellow, and white. In each piece there is a subject in the form of a monster, skeleton, or person, which is common for expressionist to have a vocal abstract characters.
